The genesis of Nisyros is connected to the Ancient Greek’s Mythology. Nisyros was born according to the description in the Gigantomachy myth. Earth or Gaia, who was the mother of all, turned the mortal Giants against the immortal gods of Olympus. The Gods chased the Giants, who retreated full of fear. The God of the Sea Poseidon was ordered by Zeus to eliminate the giant Polyvoti, who afraid for his life crossed the Aegean Sea to be saved. Poseidon got to him near Kos island. With his trident, he ripped a part of Kos and with a quick stoke against Polyvoti Poseidon hit the Giant. From this piece of Kos Island, Nisyros was thus created.
